A quiet hotel with friendly staff excellent service and excellent restaurant

  • Older travelers

Pleasant room and value for money. Allowed us to check in early.

Submitted form on departure listing concerns re bathroom. Bath plug wrong size so water continually drained. Shower head fitting loose so could only have shower whilst holding shower head in one hand. Only sufficient towels for one person. Also, morning newspaper did not arrive and had to ask for 'ordinary' tea bags because only perfumed and fruit tea bags provided.

We enjoyed the atmosphere, the outside space and the breakfast.

    Small bathroom and smallish bedroom.

    Quiet and peacfull location

Decors in the room left a lot to be desired, wallpaper peeling off, cracked shower tray, broken windows etc, was not very impressed :-(

  • Older travelers
    5.0

It was reasonably priced and the location was where I wanted

The fixings i.e. taps, shower looked dirty but actually were old and worn and in need of replacement. The bath had hair in the plug hole and clearly had not been cleaned very well. I arrived late and left early so it was just a stop to sleep otherwise I would have complained at the time.

Quiet and able to relax after busy days on a course held nearby. Staff extremely helpful and friendly

Shower rail held up by cotton thread. Shower took an age to warm up. Cable trunkng under t'he exterior barge boards is hanging off all along t'he one side of our accomodation block. Which is t'he main view from both room 27 and 28. The website and hotel refused to cancel one room, even when given 3 days notice and informed that one of the intended guests had been hospitalised.Sayiing that they had already taken t'he money. Infact there reaction was to take payment, as the transaction went through t'he following day. A shame. My business will need accomodation in that area for approx 3 weeks over the coming 2 months, unfortunatly we will not be using this hotel.

    1) The situation of the room. Had to go outside of the hotel and up a metal staircase outside which was somewhat dilapidated. Not good if the weather was bad as this was the only way to access the hotel main building 2) Lack of service in the bar when we arrived. Had to go to reception to get someone to serve us and then had to wait a long time Also told at 1.30 that the chef was going home so if we wanted lunch had to order then. We werent ready to eat then but were later on. 3) We ate from the Lounge Menu in the evening. This was rather expensive and for me a Pumpkin Ravioli at over £11 looked like a starter and was extremely over priced as was I thought most of the food.

    Nice room...FANTASTIC Cooked breakfast

Beer prices were ok(same as other places)..Wine was far too expensive

breakfast was ok. the room was massive.

my friends' room was tiny for the same price. i only chose the hotel for a nearby wedding and they would only let me book two nights - making it twice as expensive as it needed to be. i did call to check if i could book one night and they said no. they also lost some items a friend left at reception for me.

It is clear that the hotel is in dire need of a complete refurbishment. We came for a Golden Wedding reception plus weekend break. In respect of the latter we were not impressed.

Helpful staff; nice gardens, good food.

Bathroom ready for update; musty smell in corridor

My girlfriend is a foodie from Glasgow who rarely eats out.We were sceptical of the deliciously verbose menu.Gobsmackingly surprised.Free range corn fed chicken in sage and onion gravy on a bed of bubble and squeak.Black pudding, bacon and free range egg salad.'The best food shed ever eaten out'.Trust me shes not daft!

Rooms seem to be a converted stable. They are tiny and you are greeted by a musty smell.Sound proofing to adjacent rooms is negligible. They are very cheap for a convenient location however and the bed was clean and reasonably comfortable. The communal 'green area' was delightful and a god send for those taking advantage of the 'dogs welcome' concession. We drank out on the patio whilst the guests entertained the dog.Overall would go again and again. They have a lot of land out back.Would be nice to see them upgrade the accomodation to match the cuisine.
